And...here it is! The most bizarre thing I have ever eaten: the durian. They are out of season but since they really don't have seasons around here you can still get them as it turns out. So, off we went to try the beloved and reviled thing. The good ones are quite expensive. We picked one and paid, and the guy delivered it to a table on the side of the road for us and opened it with a cleaver. They are very sharp and spiky. At this point I found the smell distinctive but not awful.
