Sylvie and Mummy, San Juan Island

New Dungeness Lighthouse and museum, with its great sand, rocks, driftwood, wildlife (Harlequin ducks)....This is at (almost) the end of the Dungeness Spit, the longest sand spit in the world.  It's accessible by boat or via a 5-mile walk (each way) along the spit, which takes you through the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.

Why we love radar #1. We had a steady bearing with this one

and #2. We could see them for a long time, but in poor visibility conditions, crossing the shipping channel would be very exciting without it.

Can you see the skull in the rocks?!?!?
This is Snoring Bay on Sucia Island. We had a gorgeous slot harbor all to ourselves...and then we found out why. Somehow a gentle westerly everywhere else swirled around in the wind tunnel of Snoring Bay and transformed itself to a howling gale. Not conducive to sleep, but a beautiful place nonetheless. If you want a peaceful night we recommend that you anchor in one of the other coves.
